The first day provided cool and windy conditions, which was reflected in the relatively high scoring. Indeed, 76 proved to be the lowest score of the day, which was achieved by four players: professionals James Stewart, MK Tang and Lokky Lee, and Florida-based amateur Jason Hak. Only one shot behind them was Head Professional at Kau Sai Chau Paul Riley and Alexander Cheng. HKPGA Order of Merit winner Wong Woon-man was a further shot adrift after a 78.
