Freeman Lands a Win!

A brilliant back nine of 31 (5-under-par) allowed David Freeman to clinch victory at the second leg of the HKPGA Order of Merit Championship today (May 28, 2008), a one stroke triumph over Wong Woon-man in second place. Derek Fung, the course record holder, carded a 68 to finish third, a further stroke adrift.
Freeman, 33, finished with a final round of 67 for a two-round total of 140(4-under-par) to finish ahead of his nearest competitor.
“I’m delighted,” said Freeman, an Asian Tour regular, who was born in Wales but has called Hong Kong his home since moving to the SAR thirteen years ago. “I came out today to make a bunch of birdies, and I achieved that. It wasn’t looking too good this morning, but I held out and was able to sink a few putts this afternoon. It was very satisfying.
Dominique Boulet, who held the first round lead after a 68 yesterday, stumbled to a 77 to finish 5 shots off the pace.
A one hour rain delay during the middle of the second round disrupted play, but that was of no consequence to Freeman, who took it all in his stride. “Being on tour has taught me patience,” he said. “Today was just a matter of putting together a good round. I was fortunate that the leaders didn’t perform to their normal standard today.”
Joann Hardwick finished on a two-day total of 159 to win the Ladies Division. Betty Ng, Elsa Chan and Melody Chan were grouped together on a total of 163, four strokes adrift.
In the Seniors Division, Tang Shu Wing’s final round of 75 was good enough to see him to victory. Stanley Leung was placed second despite an excellent second round of 73. Michael Kan and Alfredo Morales placed third.
