David Freeman captures 1^st Yinli HKPGA Order Of Merit Title

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 took place on the 6&7th April at KSC north course, Hong Kong with 3 different divisions, the Open, Seniors & Ladies Division, a total of 65 players competing for the top spot, elite amateur players including Steven Lam and Tiffany Chan representing the Hong Kong Golf Association were also invited to compete for the first title of the calendar. After 2 days of intense competition, David Freeman emerges as the Open Division Champion with a 2-day combine score of 141(70/71). Seniors Division title went to Tommy Kan 149 (75/74) and Betty Ng took the title of the Ladies Division with the combine score of 156 (80/76).

The 2 days event was tightly contested and golfers competing on day 1 had to endure windy, wet and slippery conditions at the notorious tough north course. In the Seniors Division, Tommy Kan led on the first day with a respectable 75 round. In the Ladies division, Betty Ng and Vicki Ho were tied at the top and finished the 1st day with a round of 80, while Lokky Lee and David Freeman of the Open Division were tied at the top with a score of 70.

Perfect conditions in day 2 produced excellent performances & aggressive play all round, veteran Derek Fung not only hit a brilliant Hole in One on the 7th but also finishing with a low round of day 70 but it was not good enough to take the Open Division title from Freeman, who was head to head with Lokky Lee on the last holes until Lokky 3 putted the 16th which left Freeman a one stroke margin & victory.

“My game was pretty solid but I am a little disappointed with my putting today, Lokky’s bogey at the 16th provided an opportunity for me to pull ahead and take the title by one stroke, it was a tight match & I am delighted to win again” said Freeman.
