Yinli HKPGA Order Of Merit Leg 2 Winner - Derek Fung

The Yinli HKPGA Order of Merit 2009 - Leg 2 has come to an end after a two-day-competition on the 4th & 5th May. The Open Division took place at the Hong Kong Golf Club, while the Ladies and Seniors Division at the Long Island Golf & Country Club Derek Fung from the Open Division clinched the championship with a terrific six-under-par 64. Seniors Division title went to Alex Tang with a 2-day combine score of 147 (73/ 74) and elite amateur Stephanie Ho representing Hong Kong Golf Association took the title of the Ladies Division with a 2-day combine score of 146 (75/71).
A total of 48 players were competing for the top spot of the Open Division; three of them were representing HKGA as amateur golf players, including well-known junior amateur player Steven Lam, Liu Lok Tin and Shinichi Mizuno.
Prefect weather and excellent course condition allowing players to take on some of the New Course’s tough greens and tricky pin locations, with five players managed to hit sub par round, veteran James Stewart carded a one under par 69 and finished 5th, 1st round champion David Freeman and China tour qualifier Jovick Lee played beautifully & posted a pair of 67 and both tied at 3rd place. Another China Tour regular Wong Woon Man produced an impressive round of 66, however, that was not good enough to take the title from Derek Fung and had to settle for second place, the veteran and a member of the Hong Kong Golf Club played a razor-sharp round to card a remarkable six-under 64, his iron play was superb & almost holed out for Eagle on the par 4 18th with the approach, settling for an easy tap-in birdie & the championship.
"I have been very busy lately & did not have much time to practice and prepare for the tournament but fortunately my ball-striking was solid and made a lot of putts, I am delighted to win", said Fung.
Out of the amateur players, Steven Lam was the top competitor and played extremely solid throughout the game but just could not maintain the consistency & bogeyed the last 3 holes and still managed to card a respectable two over 72.
