Meeting Mr. Tony Bennett, Director of Education The PGAs of Europe

May 5th, 2010

The HKPGA has become a member of The Professional Golfers’ Associations of Europe (The PGAs of Europe) since November 2008. It is the first association from Asia to be accepted into the “family”. With the view to polishing and adding in new elements to the golf professional training program, The HKPGA is honored to have Mr. Tony Bennett, Director of Education The PGAs of Europe (co PGA Master Professional), to give a lecture to its member at the Jockey Club KSC golf course.

The PGAs of Europe is an official association with a history of 21 years. The Association comprises members from 37 countries. Amongst which, 32 are from Europe and 5 from overseas. A country has to meet the Association’s standard of coaching and professional training program before they are qualified to be a member. Mr. Bennett said, “No training program from a single country is perfect. Therefore, the association has the mission of uplifting the training standard of each country by providing professional advice and passing on the most up-to-date golfing and coaching information.” The Association would not turn its back on countries, which are yet up to standard but to provide support to them, hoping that they could meet the standard and become member of the Association one day. Mr. Bennett continued, “There is no fixed benchmark for standard, that’s why we need improvement every day.”

Being eligible to become a member of The PGAs’ Europe, the HKPGA has proven its ability to fulfill various coaching and training criteria set by the Association. The objective of Mr. Bennett’s visit this time is to inject new elements to the HKPGA academic program so that it can further level itself with the international standard.

Mr. Bennett has high comment towards members of the HKPGA. They are all fast learner. They know how to train up exceptional golfers with their professional coaching and golfing skills and their knowledge of psychomotor learning and sports philosophy. Mr. Bennett said, “Knowing how to develop an innovative golfer with the knowledge obtained from the PGA professional training program makes one a successful trainer.”
