Order Of Merit 2013 Leg 2

There have had too much rainfall in the Spring of this year. The HKPGA Senior Division Order of Merit 2013 Leg 2 was held at Shunde Junan Country Garden Golf Club between 29 and 30 April 2013. The two-day match was affected by heavy rain and second round of the competition could not be completed because 16th Green was flooded. Finally, Tournament Committee had decided to count the result of the first round only and Siu Kam Piu won the competition with a score of 75.

There were 36 players including members and trainees participated in the competition. On the first day, most participants gathered in Shenzhen and took the coach to the golf club. Unfortunately, there was traffic jam due to Golden Week holiday and it took almost 3 hours to arrive at the venue. The first day competition was successfully held as the golf club had re-scheduled the starting tee-off time and other arrangements.

Although most of the players were seniors over age 50, they shown their high fighting spirit even after taken the 3-hour ride and heavy rain in the afternoon. Under the rainy and humid weather, Siu Kam Piu, Senior Captain finished the first round with a 75 strokes led Tang Man Kee by 3.

The first round went smoothly as water stains was not too serious on the fairway even there was sudden rain. Luckily, the rain stopped when they started to play the back nine. Tang Shu Wing and Kan Wing Fu (Trainee) at 79 strokes followed by Daniel Liu and Danny Kan both at 80 listed in the 5th position.

On the second day morning, the weather turned out to be good which was more than we could expect. While all players spared no efforts to obtain their best scores, the blue sky was suddenly overcastted by dark clouds and became raining heavily. Most of the players could finish the competition before the bad weather, but the last three teams were not luckily enough to complete the remaining two to three holes. As usual, the competition has to be suspended for 45 minutes but squally showers continued. The Tournament referee found that the green cup of 16th holes had accumulated water even the ball could not be putted. The Tournament Committee decided to terminate the competition and result on the first day was counted only for the winner.

During the prize presentation ceremony, Siu Kam Piu, Senior Captain delivered a speech of thanks to the Golf Club, Honorary President, Chairman, Sponsor, Members and Trainees for their vital support. First runner-up, Tang Man Kee went over to shake hands with Uncle Piu to congratulate him on winning his competition.

As the quiz was met with very well response last time, Betty Ng, Vice Ladies Captain, who has R&A Certified Referee Qualification, had decided that "Rules Quiz" would be organized in every Leg right after the first day's competition and 45 minutes before dinner. This time the theme was "Water Hazard" and all players had a heated discussion on it.
