The Hong Kong Professional Golfers’ Association (HKPGA) 2013-2015 New Committee Inauguration Ceremony and the 12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China - Celebration Reception was successfully held on 25 November 2013 at SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course Function Room.  The Celebration Reception received strong support from about 100 participants including friends from golfing, representatives from sponsors, media, HKPGA Honorary Presidents, members and new Committee members.

The event was started from a welcome speech by Mr Danny Kan, Vice Chairman of HKPGA.  Mr Kan said “First of all, I would like to represent the HKPGA 2013-2015 Committee, Mr Daniel Liu, Chairman of HKPGA, Mr Tang Man Kee, Chairman of Open Division, Mr Siu Kam Piu, Chairman of Senior Division, and Ms Elsa Tang, Chairman of Ladies Division, to thank all guests attending the Ceremony today.  Tonight is a meaningful night, in addition to the HKPGA New Committee Inauguration Ceremony, the Hong Kong Men’s Golf Team have made a great achievement and won a silver medal at the 12th National Games of the People’s Republic of China.  HKPGA sent two selected representatives, Mr James Wong Woon Man and Mr Timothy Tang Tsz Hang while the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA) sent Mr Hak Shun Yat and Mr Yeung Mo Tin.  The Hong Kong Team was keeping the stability of their standard in most of the time during the four rounds’ competition.  They have achieved the best ever result in recent and also bring new hope to the local golfing.”

The speech has won thunderous applause by all guest, Mr Kan continued to say “The HKPGA will continue to support the development of golfing however hard it is.  Apart from providing training course with international standard for people who aspired to be professionals, we also hope that golfing will be popularization, e.g. to organize training courses for youth for improvement of techniques.  As for Association’s affairs, we will survey our existing regulations and arrangements to perfection the operation of the Association.”

Mr Kan then said “Besides a group of enthusiastic and selfless members, the development of HKPGA to date was also relied on the great support by some people and organizations, including Yinli Foreign Investors Golf Club, SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course and all HKPGA Honorary Presidents, etc.  I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to them.”

The Celebration Reception began right after the welcome speech.  Mr Lau of Vintage Concept presented souvenirs to the two silver medal winners, Mr James Wong and Mr Timothy Tang, then Mr Daniel Liu presented memories plates and badges to them.  Mr Tang said “Thank you HKPGA, HKGA, SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course and Hong Kong Golf Club, letting me practice while preparation for the 12th National Game, particularly Nine Eagles has treated me as their member.  I also thank you for all people who support HKPGA and golfing, we will continue to strive.”

Mr Joe Hardwick, Founder of HKPGA accepted the invitation by Mr Daniel Liu and specially back to Hong Kong to attend the important event, witnessed a brilliant of the Celebration Reception and also acted as a guest to present awards in 2013-2015 New Committee Inauguration Ceremony.

The Inauguration Ceremony was successfully completed after the presentation of all souvenirs to Committee members by Mr Joe Hardwick.  Mr Hardwick then delivered a speech “Back in 1969, we have to send representatives from Hong Kong to join the World Cup so I set up the HKPGA.  When I was the Head Pro in Fanling, I found two young talented guys, Mr Tang Shu Chuen and Mr Lai Wai Chi.  Then I began giving them golf training and sent them to join the 1st World Cup of Golf and Mr Tang Shu Chuen became the first local Chinese Professional golfer in Hong Kong.  Later, Mr Daniel Liu, Mr Alex Tang, etc also joined HKPGA.  Time flies and up to date, I can see many enthusiastic new players with high morale, I really appreciate and feeling very gratify.  Thank you all!”.  After Mr Hardwick gave an impressive speech, all guests were standing up and clapping their hands continuously.

At last, Mr Daniel Liu expressed that “Dr Cheng Ying Nam of SkyCity Nine Eagles Golf Course assisted us to raise fund of HK$1.38M last year and he also sponsored HK$300,000 for Senior Division in Yinli, Nine Eagles HKPGA Invitational Series this year.  Except my heartfelt thanks, I also hope to invite Dr Cheng to become HKPGA Life Honorary President.”.  A round of thunderous applause happened again.

Mr Daniel Liu invited Dr Cheng to come up to the stage and Dr Cheng said “I hope I can see the HKPGA Professionals on TV, I remember I said this on 9 September 2011.  My wish came true after two years on 9 September 2013, it was the day that James Wong and Timothy Tang won the silver medal, I saw the news on TV and I was really happy!”.

Then Mr Daniel Liu presented memories plates and badges to HKPGA Honorary Presidents, Mr Brandon Wen, Mr Yau Chi Ming, Mr Chiu Man Hin and Legal Advisor, Mr Terry Yeung.  All Committee Members were taken photos and toasting to all guests.

The Celebration Reception was ended in a very satisfactory way.
